Southwest Monsoon has been stagnant for the last six days and has remained just short of Konkan, reaching Karwar as of now. Mumbai, which has been devoid of any Pre Monsoon rains until now is expected to see some rainfall activities.
Starting tomorrow, the city may see some rainfall activities, being on the lighter side for at least two to three days, i.e. between June 8 and 10. These showers will be light and patchy in nature. The normal date for the Onset of Monsoon is June 10, but it is expected to get slightly delayed. Monsoon is usually preceded by Pre Monsoon showers, so is true with Mumbai as well.
On June 11 and 12, some thunderstorm activities can be seen, which is in itself a sign of Pre Monsoon showers and thunder is not associated with Monsoon rains. Rains however will not be disruptive as such.
Last two years, in the first week of June itself, the total amount of raisn exceeded 100 mm. However, this year has not been the case as such. In 2016 and 2019, rains were not seen for the first 10 days of June, which is similar to what we have been seeing this year.
