Pre Monsoon season ends on satisfactory note with deficiency of just 10 percentWinter rains have been poor enough this time and very little rains were seen throughout the country resulting in large deficiencies throughout the winter season. The Pre-Monsoon season, which begins in March and lasts until the end of May also had a poor start.

In fact, rainfall activity was on the lower side in the month of March wherein only 16.2 mm of rainfall was witnessed against the normal of 30.9 mm which resulted in a deficiency of a whopping 48 percent. During this time, except South India, all areas remained highly deficient. NMMT region witnessed a deficiency of 69 percent. Also, west, central and northern parts of the country saw a deficiency over 95 percent.

In April, 38.4 mm of rains were witnessed against its normal of 38.3 mm. During this month, only parts of Northeast India, Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Rayalaseema performed poorly. Otherwise, rains were in excess for South, East and North India.

Meanwhile, the month of May saw 62.4 mm against 62.3 mm of rainfall. During this period, the three weeks out of four performed quite well. However, the third week was deficient by 29 percent.

Thus, the deficiency of March was covered in the months of April and May. The Pre Monsoon season finally ended with a deficiency of 11 percent which looked like a dream after highly deficit March wherein 117 mm of rain was recorded against 131.5 mm.

Now, the three-month long Pre-Monsoon season has come to an end. While northern parts of the country will continue to witness Pre-Monsoon like conditions until Monsoon arrives over the region, starting tomorrow, rainfall recorded will be counted in the Monsoon season.
