Pre-Monsoon rains to revive over Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Bankura, Angul

March 20, 2018 5:51 PM | Skymet Weather Team

During this time of the year, the temperatures over the interior parts of Odisha and West Bengal generally remain very warm. This is the reason the interior parts of the state reels under soaring mercury levels. The maximums at present in the interior districts of the state are settling a couple of degrees above the normal levels.

The extent of hot weather conditions over Odisha and West Bengal can be made out of the fact that the daytime highs across the interior regions of the state are even settling close to 37-38 degrees Celsius.

Whereas, the coastal and southern districts of both the state are witnessing near normal maximum temperatures. On the other hand, the minimum across the stations lying in the coastal belt of the state are below normal by 2-3 degrees Celsius.

The reason for the soaring mercury levels across both Odisha and West Bengal can be related to the prevalence of dry weather for the past 3-4 days.  The last rainy spells that both the states experienced were on March 17.

However, rains are once again expected to revive over both West Bengal and Odisha soon. A trough is expected to form extending from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal to interior Odisha across Gangetic West Bengal around March 22. On account of this weather system, light rains are expected to commence at isolated parts of both the states.

The regions that are expected to get affected by these showers are Balasore, Bhubaneshwar, Keonjhargarh, Angul, Ganjam, Midnapore, Bankura, Bardhaman, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, and Kolkata.

As per Skymet Weather, this trough would persist until March 24. Hence, on and off light to very light rain is expected over these two states. However, the intensity of these showers would remain light and areas affected by these rains would also be limited.

The sky may become partly cloudy but no significant drop in the temperatures is expected. A marginal drop by 2-3 degrees can be anticipated.

By March 25, the weather is expected to become clear. In spite of cloudy cover and isolated rains, the weather would continue to remain warm to very warm as the trough is not very significant and capable of giving widespread showers.
