Pre-Monsoon rains to pick up pace in Chennai, Tamil Nadu in 24 hrs

Pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers have finally picked up pace over Southern Peninsular. All thanks to the development of weather systems over the region.

With this, Tamil Nadu which till now has been recording on and off light rains only, is now gearing up for some good pre-Monsoon rains.

According to Skymet Weather, a trough has been extending from North Interior Karnataka up to Interior Tamil Nadu for the last couple of days. Another feeble trough has developed over South Coastal Tamil Nadu.

In view of this, intense thunderclouds have developed over many parts of Tamil Nadu, bringing rains of varying intensity since early Thursday morning. State capital of Chennai has also recorded rain and thundershowers during morning hours.

Weathermen predict thunderstorm, thundershowers or light to moderate rain at many districts of the state such as Karaikal, Puducherry, Ariyalur, Cuddalore, Dharmapuri, Kancheepuram, Krishnagiri, Nagapattinam, Namakkal, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Salem, Sivaganga, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Tiruchchirappalli, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore and Villupuram.

Further, as both the troughs are likely to persist for another 24 hours, scattered rains will continue over many parts of the state.

Though Interior Tamil Nadu has been recording on and off rain since last many day but the region is now likely to witness some good rainy spells. Meanwhile, coastal areas that have been dry till now are likely to record scattered rains with the formation of coastal trough.
