After a dry April, temperatures soared significantly during the first two days of May over several parts of the country. It seemed like hotter days had no end. However, rain gods have decided to bestow some kindness on India and Pre-Monsoon rains are expected to pick pace in the coming days.
As reiterated by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, many areas in the country received good Pre-Monsoon showers on May 3 and May 4. For several parts, this spell was the maiden one and a good news for many in those areas.
Good showers have been observed in the foothills of the Himalayas. Scattered rainfall activity has been observed over many parts of Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, East Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, parts of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, North Interior Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
However, most areas in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra remained dry during this period. Now, the Pre-Monsoon rains are likely to pick up pace and cover more areas of the country. Currently, numerous weather systems are affecting several parts of India.
Weather Forecast
The hills of North India which were reeling under heatwave conditions will receive rain during the next 24 to 48 hours owing to the Western Disturbance which is over Jammu and Kashmir. All the three hilly states namely Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir will receive rains.
Also, East India has already started receiving Pre-Monsoon rains. During the next two to three days, the intensity of rains over Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal will increase. Rains will be widespread and will cover almost the entire region.
A trough which is extending from West Bengal to Odisha will result in scattered rain over parts of South Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Telangana, Marathwada, and Interior Karnataka in the next 24 to 48 hours of time.
However, rains will be scanty over the Northwestern Plains. The possibility of light dust storm and thunderstorm activity over Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi-NCR cannot be ruled out. Rains will gradually increase over South Madhya Pradesh, Marathwada, Telangana will increase.
These rains will remain patchy in nature and will occur mostly during the late afternoon or early morning which is a typical Pre-Monsoon feature. There will definitely be relief in terms of temperatures. Many areas will witness an abatement in the heatwave conditions.
Areas including Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Patna, Ranchi, Nizamabad and other cities will receive rain during this period.
