Pre-Monsoon rains to lash Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, UP, Delhi

March 7, 2017 2:09 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Northern plains are gearing up for the maiden rainy spell of the pre-Monsoon season. Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh will start recording rains of varying intensity Tuesday onwards.

Few places could also witness hail storm and thunderstorms. As per the weathermen, during the pre-Monsoon season instability in the atmosphere also increases, which in turn result in hail storm, dust storm and thunderstorms activities.

All thanks to the fresh Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir that has induced a cyclonic circulation over North Rajasthan and adjoining areas. A trough is also likely to develop from North Rajasthan and adjoining Haryana up to East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar across Delhi-NCR.

According to Skymet Weather, rains will begin from Rajasthan by today afternoon and will soon extend to the parts of Punjab by evening. However, intensity of these pre-Monsoon showers will be light only.

By March 8, rains will intensify and scattered rain and thundershowers are likely over Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. Delhi and Uttar Pradesh could also see some isolated showers on Wednesday.

Thereafter, both intensity and spread of rains will increase and we can expect scattered to fairly widespread rains to lash the northern plains, barring Rajasthan that will continue with isolated showers only.

The rainy spell is likely to continue till March 11, reducing thereafter. By March 12, we can see significant drop in the rain activity.

However, in wake of these showers, mercury will witness a significant drop resulting in cool weather conditions in the coming week.
