India is all set to witness a rainy week ahead, bringing in that much needed respite. After remaining dry and warm for almost over a week, pre-Monsoon rains are all set to return.
Beginning from April 5, the approaching spell is likely to be a prolonged as well as an extensive one i.e. from April 6-11. According to Skymet Weather, pre-Monsoon activities are going to cover almost all parts of the country, barring two pockets of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.
The activity is likely to peak between April 8-10, thereafter reducing gradually. These showers would be of shorter duration but will be sharp in intensity, say weathermen at Skymet Weather.
Approaching rains would also be instrumental in dropping the mercury across the country, but afternoons would still continue to be warm. Heat is the triggering factor for these pre-Monsoon activities. Thus, these showers usually occur during the later parts of day and by then, the temperatures have already peaked.

In the coming week, major contribution of rains would come from Northeast India, which might help in reducing the countrywide cumulative rain deficiency which as on April 4 stands at 48%.
All thanks to the series of weather systems forming over several parts of the country. Beginning with north, a Western Disturbance has been prevailing over Jammu and Kashmir, which has also induced a cyclonic circulation over North Rajasthan and adjoining areas of Punjab and Haryana.
As reiterated earlier, whenever these two systems form together, they tend to move in tandem and at a slow pace. Light rains and thundershowers are likely to lash Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
Meanwhile down the plains, isolated thundershowers or thunderstorm may occur on April 5 over most parts of the affecting areas of the plains. The activity will intensify April 6 onward and several parts of Punjab, Haryana, Northwest Rajasthan, Delhi-NCR and West Uttar Pradesh may see pre-Monsoon activities such as thundershowers, thunderstorms, dust storms and even hail storm. However, chances of rains would be less but not completely ruled out.
Another cyclonic circulation can be seen over East Uttar Pradesh and an east-west trough is running from the circulation till Bangladesh. In addition to this, an anti-cyclonic circulation is marked over Central Bay of Bengal off Odisha and Andhra Coast.
With this, light rains and thundershowers along with lightning and squally winds would lash parts of Bihar, East Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal.
As mentioned above, Northeast India would see light to moderate rains and thundershowers during this time period. In fact, the humid winds from the above mentioned anti-cyclone would further enhance the rain activity.
Another north-south trough is running from circulation over Uttar Pradesh till parts of Kerala. As a result, parts of Central India such as Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra would see some rains and thundershowers along with thunderstorms, dust storm and hail storm.
The intensity of this upcoming weather activity would be slightly more over the regions of South India such as Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala on account of humidity.
Major cities of Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi-NCR might see some rain and thundershowers. Meanwhile, Kolkata and Hyderabad stand a good chance of rains and thundershowers.
