Maharashtra has been witnessing hot weather conditions for several days now. In fact, maximum temperatures across Vidarbha, Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra has been settling above 40-degree mark for over a month now.
Situation has been still better in the coastal region of Konkan in terms of day temperatures but high humidity has kept the day uncomfortable. For instance, day maximums in Mumbai has been settling around 33°C or 34°C since last few days but increased levels of moisture increased the discomfort.
Now, the pre-Monsoon activities have finally made an appearance over the state during the last 24 hours. And, weathermen predict that conditions remain favourable for the rains to continue over the region.
According to Skymet Weather, a trough is running from Madhya Maharashtra up to West Central Arabian Sea. Due to this, scattered rains have already occurred over Konkan and Goa and adjoining South Madhya Maharashtra.
In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Kolhapur recorded 13 mm of rains, Sholapur 3 mm, and Satara 3 mm.
At present also, rain and thunder shower along with squally winds may occur over parts of Ahmednagar, Bid, Osmanabad, Pune, Sholapur, Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts of Maharashtra during the evening hours of Thursday.
We expect some more rains over Madhya Maharashtra on May 6-7. But, as the trough will be slightly east of Mumbai, the good spell of rain may escape the state capital. However, one or two spell of thunderstorm or light rains cannot be ruled out over Mumbai and suburbs.
Since, these will be short lived activities, it will not much impact over the temperature profile. But nonetheless, these can be considered as the first pre-Monsoon rains.
