Kolkata is all set to witness another spell of good pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers on Wednesday.

According to Skymet Weather, cloud configuration and weather conditions are indicating that rains and thunder showers may start lashing the capital any time now. However, these showers will sharp and short in nature which are likely to continue for 2-3 hours.

The city has already witnessed dust storm over several parts during the afternoon hours.

With today’s rain, Kolkata is likely to surpass its monthly average rainfall of 136.6 mm. The city has already recorded 135.7 mm of rain till now.

At present, several systems are affecting the weather over the city. These fresh rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation marked over North Bay of Bengal. Moreover, a trough is also extending from this system up to Sub-Himalayan West Bengal across Kolkata.

The weather systems have been increasing the moisture incursion over the region. In wake of this, warm and humid winds lead to development of thunder clouds, resulting in rain.

These showers will keep the day maximums under check, which are already settling marginally below normal for the last couple of days. However, evening and mornings will be fairly comfortable.

Skymet Weather predicts that patchy but sharp rain spell will continue for another 2-3 days as trough will be running across the city.

Kolkata has been witnessing good rain and thundershowers for last five days. On Monday, the city had recorded 56 mm of rain, which was highest rainfall recorded in 24 hours during last 10 years.
