The month of May is likely to begin with good pre Monsoon activity over Bihar and Jharkhand. As per Skymet Weather, a trough is extending from Haryana to Northeast India across Bihar and Jharkhand. Therefore, we expect rain and thundershower at many places over Jharkhand. Meanwhile, Bihar will record scattered rainfall activity.

The intensity of showers will mainly be light to moderate. However, one or two heavy spells cannot be ruled out. The intensity of showers will be more over Jharkhand as compared to Bihar. These pre Monsoon activities are expected to occur during the next 24 to 48 hours. Thereafter, the intensity of showers will decrease.
Along with pre-Monsoon rains, many districts of Jharkhand are likely to witness squally winds and frequent thunderstorm and lightning strikes. East India particularly Jharkhand, parts of Bihar, West Bengal and Odisha are known for violent thunder squall activity between the months of April and May. These pre-Monsoon activities are termed as Nor'wester or Kalbaisakhi.
As per weathermen, intense Kalbaisakhi activity is may curb damage to property, up root trees and electrical wire. Districts such as Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Banka, Bhagalpur, Purnia, Katihar and Supaul are likely to record good rainfall activity. In fact, Patna and Gaya may also record short spell rain or thundershower activity.
Usually, Monsoon reaches Jharkhand and parts of Bihar in the month of June. During that time, the temperatures fall down. Thus, the intensity of Kalbaisakhi reduces during the Monsoon season and occurs more violently in the month of April and May due to high day temperatures.
