Rain gods have given widespread rains over almost entire Northeast India in the past day. States including Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya and Mizoram witnessed good rainfall activity. Meanwhile, Nagaland and Tripura observed dry weather.

In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Thursday, North Lakhimpur recorded rain to the tune of 27 mm, Silchar 59 mm, Dibrugarh and Imphal 17 mm. In the similar time frame, Pasighat recorded 16 mm rain, Golaghat 15 mm rain, Halfong and Tezpur 9 mm. In fact, Majbat also observed light rainfall activity.
These rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which is persisting over Assam, Meghalaya and adjoining regions.
As per Weathermen, on and off pre Monsoon rains are likely to continue over Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Mizoram until March 18. In fact, Nagaland will also start recording good rains today onward. Along with rain, lightning strikes and moderate to strong winds will also be witnessed.
The intensity of rains generally increases during the pre-Monsoon season over the northeastern states. Therefore, more such rainy episodes are expected in the upcoming days. The rainfall activity has made the weather comfortable and pleasant over most of the states.
These rains will be attributed to the cyclonic circulation over Assam and Meghalaya region. This system is likely to prevail over the same region for the next two days.
In fact, the Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir will move along the foothills towards Assam and Arunachal Pradesh which will contribute towards the already ongoing rains. Moreover, the southeasterly winds from the Bay of Bengal will also feed moisture over the region.
