The eastern states of Bihar and Jharkhand have remained dry for more than a week now as the last rainy spells occurred at a few parts of the states on April 21. However, now there are possibilities of some pre-Monsoon rains to make an appearance in the next 3-4 days in many areas of Bihar and Jharkhand.

Few isolated pockets of the states may even experience heavy rain along with the possibility of lightning strikes and squally winds. As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation can be seen over West Bengal and adjacent parts of Bihar. Apart from this, a trough is also running from Punjab to Assam across Bihar.

Due to these weather systems, easterly and southeasterly winds have also started blowing over both the eastern states, due to which there can be changes in the weather scenario.

Skymet Weather estimates that rains would start occurring from today evening in parts of northeastern Bihar including Kishanganj, Araria, Supaul and Purnea. Thereafter, the spread of rains would increase over the middle and southern parts of the state along with over a few parts of Jharkhand as well.

In fact, dust storm and thundershowers with strong gusty winds may occur at some parts of Bokaro, Chatra, Deoghar, Dhanbad, Dumka, Garhwa, Giridih, Gumla, Hazaribag, Jamtara, Khunti, Latehar, Lohardaga, Pakur, Palamu, Ramgarh, Ranchi, Saraikela Kharsawan, and Simdega, during next 6 hours.

In Bihar and Jharkhand, in the next 3-4 days, there may also be an outbreak of nor’westers or Kaal Baisakhi at one or two places along with possible rain activities. Nor’westers is the situation when heavy rains with lightning and stormy winds in the eastern states of the country occur for a short duration of time in certain areas. However, these rains and lightning accompanied with thunderstorms can be catastrophic, causing massive destructions.

According to Skymet Weather expert Mahesh Palawat, pre-Monsoon rains in Bihar and Jharkhand can remain till May 2 with chances of heavy falls between May 1 and 2.
