Between March 1 and April 22nd, the South Peninsula has received 6% less rain. Rayalaseema and Tamilnadu are deficient whereas North interior Karnataka has received good rain and it is rain surplus by 92% followed by coastal Karnataka which is surplus by 57%.
Rain activities are going to increase now over many parts of the South Peninsula. A North-South trough is expected to form and will extend from central parts of the country to south Tamil Nadu. Humid winds from the Bay of Bengal as well as the Arabian Sea will push moisture. Rain activities over South Peninsular are expected to increase from April 25th. Scattered light to moderate rains will commence over interior parts of Tamil Nadu, North coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana including Hyderabad. On and off rain and thundershower activities rain activities over Chennai may also commence from April 26th, and may continue on and off until April 29th. Rains will increase over Rayalaseema, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, south interior Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu from April 25th and may continue until April 29th.
However, North interior Karnataka will remain almost dry with isolated light rain activities. By the end of April, the rain deficiency of the South Peninsula will come down to some extent. Theses pre-monsoon activities will also help in reducing the hot weather conditions which are persisting over many parts of the South Peninsula.
