Northeast India is one such region of India that has been constantly receiving on and off pre-Monsoon rains ever since the month of April began. These pre-Monsoon showers were accompanied with squally winds and lightning strikes in parts as well.
The intensity of rains was much more over the state of Assam in comparison with the other states of Northeast India. On the past day also, many northeastern stations recorded light with isolated heavy rains.
In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Monday, Silchar recorded heavy rains to the tune of 43 mm, Golaghat 9 mm, Guwahati 9 mm, Rangia 8 mm, Chaparmukh 5 mm, Majbat 4 mm, Kohima 3 mm, Goalpara 2 mm and Dhubri recorded one mm of rain.

As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is persisting over East Bangladesh. Due to this, humid winds from the Bay of Bengal are continuously over the northeastern states of the country which is increasing moisture leading to cloud formation and rains.

This cyclonic circulation would persist for the next three to four days with slight oscillation to left or right. Therefore, on and off rains are expected to continue over the ‘seven sisters’ region for the next two to three days.
Thereafter, though the intensity of these rains would reduce, the weather would still not become completely dry. During pre-Monsoon season, localized weather systems normally develop over the region which give isolated rain activities for short duration.
