Kerala rains

The state of Kerala has observed dry weather conditions during February. In fact, the month of March also begun on a dry note for the state. This dry spell can be credited to the absence of any significant weather system.

However, parts of Kerala have been drenched by good rain and thundershowers since past many days. During last 24 hours as well; few districts have recorded light to moderate rainfall.

Rain activity recorded in the span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday, Alappuzha recorded 18 mm of rainfall, followed by Punalur 10 mm, Kozhikode 1 mm and Thiruvananthapuram 0.1 mm.

The reason for these rain and thundershowers activities can be attributed to the persisting cyclonic circulation over North Interior Karnataka and adjoining areas. Also, the wind discontinuity is from Lakshadweep Island to Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.

As per Skymet Weather, scattered light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely to continue over interior parts of the state for another 24 hours. Thereafter, the rainfall intensity is expected to ease off. But thunderstorm activity will continue over northern districts of Kerala.

By March 21, these rains may take a backseat, with dry and humid weather beginning over the state. Besides this, the temperatures are expected to scale up across most parts of the state.
