However, now the good news is that rains will soon commence over South Tamil Nadu, Kerala and South Interior Karnataka in the second week of March.

These showers can be touted as the first spell of pre-Monsoon season in 2018. These rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation that is likely to form near Sri Lanka.

The system is most likely to move in the northwest direction, leading to commencement of scattered rains over South Tamil Nadu and Kerala on March 12. Gradually the intensity and spread of rains will increase and by March 13, many parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala along with few parts of South Interior Karnataka will start receiving rain and thundershower activities.

These on and off rains are expected to continue till March 15 or 16. During this period, few moderate spells are also possible over South Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Cities of Chennai and Bengaluru also stands a good chance of rain during this time.

Weather models are indication much intensification of the system, therefore heavy to very heavy rains are ruled out for now. Rains will lead to drop in day temperatures over many parts of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and South Interior Karnataka, leading to relief from ongoing hot weather conditions.
