Updated on April 5, 2019 3:30 PM: Rains to begin in Kolkata, West Bengal soon, lightning and squally winds to accompany

As predicted by Skymet Weather, pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers are all set to lash parts of East India. Intensity of these showers would be maximum over West Bengal as compared to light rains in Bihar and Jharkhand. The state capital of Kolkata is also gearing up for a good spell of rain today.

The weather over West Bengal has already gone cloudy, with rains likely to commence soon. One needs to exercise caution as these rains would be accompanied with squally winds and lightning strikes.

Places like Bankura, Barddhaman, Birbhum, Haora, Hugli, Kolkata, Malda, Murshidabad, Nadia, North Twenty Four Parganas, Paschim Medinipur, Purba Medinipur, Puruliya and South Twenty Four Parganas districts  are likely to record rain and thundershowers of varying intensity during the next 6 hours.

These showers are likely to bring relief from hot and sultry weather but that would marginal relief only. Next day would again start with bright sun. However, evenings can be pleasant.

Pre Monsoon Rains to begin in West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand from April 5

During the Pre-Monsoon season, most parts of East India witness thunderstorm activities accompanied with lightning strikes. These activities initially originate in parts of Bihar and Jharkhand and travel towards West Bengal. So far in this season, West Bengal is the only pocket in East India that has received excess rains. Meanwhile, Jharkhand recorded normal rains and Bihar is largely rain deficient.

Talking about temperatures, all the above mentioned states usually starts heating up and maximum temperatures start exceeding 40˚C. However, till now no place in East India has witnessed day temperature reaching 40-degree mark.

Thus, we can say that the entire region has been observing moderate summers till now, due to the occurrence of continuous weather activities. Now in the coming days as well, we expect day temperatures to remain under check, as from April 5, rains will once again commence over parts of Bihar, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal.

Further, on April 6 and 7, intensity and spread of these weather activities would increase and cover all these states. While Gangetic West Bengal will witness moderate to heavy rains accompanied with strong winds, Bihar and Jharkhand would settle with light rains with one or two intense spells.

These weather activities would occur in association with a cyclonic circulation over parts of Bihar and Jharkhand. A trough will also extend from this system. Adding to these weather systems, moisture incursion due to the anti-cyclone will also play a vital role.
