Lightning and thundering threat looms large Bihar

Pre-Monsoon season has remained pretty satisfactory for the eastern states of the country particularly Bihar. On and off rain and thundershowers  have been making presence over Bihar since April. But major portions of Bihar has been dry since many days.

Though on May 17, scattered rains occurred over many parts of Bihar. Gaya received 17 mm of rain, whereas Patna also received light to moderate. These weather activities were persistent due to a trough which was running from Haryana to West Bengal across Bihar. Now there is no significant weather system, therefore, we expect dry weather conditions to continue over Bihar and temperatures will be above normal.

At present, temperature of Patna is six degrees above normal, while Gaya is also three degrees above normal. But now, we expect thunderstorm and dust storm activities with one to two spells of thundershower to commence over Bihar by May 26-27. Gradually, intensity of rains will increase in Bihar and nearby states of Jharkhand. Reason for these rains will be a formation of a trough over Bihar and simultaneously, a low pressure over North West Bay of Bengal.

These winds will attract humid winds from the Bay of Bengal that will increase moisture over Bihar and adjoining areas. According to Skymet weather, by the end of the month, there are expectations of few good spells of thundershower over many parts of Bihar. Lightning strikes are also possible during that time. This will lead to decrease in temperatures and even the ongoing above normal temperatures will come down near to normal giving the residents of Bihar a sight of relief.
