Since the last one week, weather of South Peninsula including the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala became dry due to cyclone Fani which developed over Southeast Bay of Bengal and further moved in north/northwest direction.
During its travel across Bay of Bengal, all the moisture and winds remained concentrated over Fani. Therefore, humid winds were cut off from Kerala and Tamil Nadu and weather became almost dry with few isolated spells.
Now as cyclone Fani has dissipated, weather activities will once again resume over South India including Tamil Nadu and Kerala. We expect a confluence zone to develop and extend from Interior Karnataka to South Kerala.
This weather system will be responsible for enhancing rain and thundershowers in South India. Rain intensity will be more in interior parts of Tamil Nadu as compared to Kerala and Coastal Tamil Nadu. Heavy showers will be ruled out. Coastal areas of Tamil Nadu including Chennai will see on and off light patchy rain and thundershower activities.
Moreover, in the wake of rains, temperatures in both the states will come down to some extent and weather conditions will become comfortable especially during the nights.
