The eastern parts of the country had been reeling under the warm and dry weather for the last many days. So much so that day maximums were settling well above normal at few places. However, rain gods have now shown some mercy over the region.

Most of the eastern states of India recorded rainfall activity in the last 24 hours. Right from East Uttar Pradesh to Bihar to Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Odisha, all these states have witnessed scattered rainfall activity.
Although, rains were light in nature but these showers were capable of bringing down the temperatures.
In the span of 24 hours from 8.30 am on Thursday, Sundargarh recorded light rain to the tune of 4 mm, Jharsuguda 3 mm, Diamond Harbour 0.8 mm, Baripada 0.6 mm, Bankura 0.2 mm. In the similar time frame, Ranchi, Gaya, Purulia and Gorakhpur witnessed traces of rain.
These rains occurred due to the cyclonic circulation that has been prevailing over Bangladesh and adjoining areas. Besides this, a trough has also been extending from East Bihar to Telangana across Jharkhand, which has further contributed to weather.
As per weathermen, the trough has shifted towards the east and is now extending from South Jharkhand to Telangana. Therefore, we expect weather of East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar to clear up now.
However, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha and the southern districts of Jharkhand will continue to receive light rainfall activity for another 24 hours.
Moreover, isolated rain and thundershowers may also occur over Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. As per Skymet Weather, the weather across East India will clear up by the evening of March 17 and dry weather conditions would return. The day temperatures that had seen a drop will also start rising.
