Pre-Monsoon rains over Kerala and Karnataka

March 30, 2016 3:59 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Pre-Monsoon showers are expected to make a comeback over Kerala and Coastal Karnataka during the next 24-48 hours. Both the states are likely to receive light to moderate rain at few places.

The rain activity can be attributed to the north-south trough extending from Madhya Maharashtra up to Kerala across interior Karnataka. As reiterated by Skymet Weather, this trough is a semi-permanent feature during pre-Monsoon season that keeps oscillating east and west.

Prior to this, the trough was giving rain over parts of Tamil Nadu. However, this trough has now oscillated towards west, leading to dry weather over the state.

According to Skymet Weather, the rainy spell will not be very intense and thus will not lead to any significant fall in day temperatures. These pre-Monsoon showers usually occur during afternoon or evening hours and by then, maximum temperatures had already reached its peak.

Maximum temperatures will continue to settle in the range of 35°C to 37°C across both the states. With this, weather will continue to be very warm and humid.

By the end of March, pre-Monsoon rain activity starts increasing gradually. In April, these showers increase by 2-3 folds in comparison to March.
