Pre-Monsoon rains likely to continue over Amritsar, Hisar

In the past few days, Punjab and Haryana have experienced heavy to moderate rainfall activities due to the weather systems above these regions. As per Skymet weather, a cyclonic circulation persists over Haryana and a trough is extending from Punjab to the Northeastern states along the foothills of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

These combined weather systems are lashing the two states with rainfall and thundershower activities. Northern parts of Haryana received scattered rains while heavy rains were witnessed over northern parts of Punjab. In the next 24 – 48 hours also, Gurdaspur and Amritsar would receive moderate to heavy rainfall.

Thereafter the trough will get more prominent and the northern parts of Punjab, Haryana and northern Uttar Pradesh will receive moderate rainfall activities. The foothills of Punjab will record comparatively more heavier showers.

In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am Amritsar in Punjab received 20.6 mm rainfall and Kapurthala 25 mm. While in Haryana, Hisar received 24.6 mm rainfall and other cities received light to moderate rains. These rainfall activities are likely to continue over states for the next couple of days but the intensity will reduce.

The temperatures across these states are comfortable and are likely to remain for the next 2-4 days. Monsoon is likely to make an onset over Punjab and Haryana in the first week of July.
