In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Gulmarg recorded rain to the tune of 25 mm, QaziGund 13 mm, Srinagar 10 mm of rains. In the same time frame, Shimla witnessed 4 mm rains, Manali and Bhuntar 3 mm. In fact, Dehradun and Tehri also observed very light rain activity.
At present, a fresh Western Disturbance is prevailing over Jammu and Kashmir. Therefore, light to moderate rain and thundershower activity with isolated heavy spells are likely to continue over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
In fact, scattered pre Monsoon showers will also make an appearance over Uttarakhand. As per Skymet Weather, these activities are likely to continue until April 21. However, the intensity of showers may decrease on April 18 and April 19. Thereafter, on and off weather activity will continue with increasing intensity.
In wake of these continuous rains, landslides and mudslides are also possible in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Moreover, isolated places in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may experience hailstorm as well.
As we are now in the month of April, the temperatures are on a rise. Therefore, the possibility of snowfall is very bleak.
It is anticipated that most of the tourist destinations like Manali, Shimla, Srinagar, Gulmarg and Vaishno Devi will observe cloudy weather with on and off rain and thundershower activities.
The temperatures of most of the places in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh will settle below normal due to continuous cloud cover. Meanwhile, at present, the temperatures in Uttarakhand are settling above normal temp due to lack of rain activity. However, they are likely to fall by 2°c to 3°C in coming days.
