Since the beginning of April, the northwestern plains are receiving on and off rain and thundershower activities. In wake of these pre Monsoon rains, heatwave like conditions which were prevailing over Northwest India, have abated and they did not make a comeback as the temperatures have not increased since then.

These Pre Monsoon rains over Northwest India can be attributed to the successive Western Disturbances which induced on and off cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan, Rajasthan and at times over Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

In the past day also, many parts of Punjab, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, East Haryana and Rajasthan have received rain and thundershower activities with squally winds.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Alwar recorded heavy rain to the tune of 40 mm, Bharatpur 14 mm, Bhiwani 15 mm and Pilani 9 mm. In the same time frame, Safdarjung observatory in Delhi recorded 5.4 mm rains, Kota 6 mm, Hisar 2.1 mm, Narnaul 4 mm and Moradabad 1 mm rains.

As per Skymet Weather, it is expected that these pre Monsoon activities are likely to decrease significantly over Punjab, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, East Haryana and Rajasthan. The decrease in pre Monsoon rains will be attributed to the current Western Disturbance which is moving away and its induced cyclonic circulation over Southwest Uttar Pradesh will also fade away.

Hence, the winds would change direction and relatively warm and dry winds from northwest direction will start blowing over Northwest India.

Hence, the weather is likely to turn dry from today evening onward. In fact, both the minimum and maximum temperatures would also rise by 3°C to 4°C, over the northwestern plains making the weather very warm.

However, another spell of rain and thundershower activity is expected to commence around April 16 or 17. Until then, the northwestern plains are anticipated to reel under warm and sultry weather.
