In the past day from 8:30 am on Sunday, Silchar recorded rain to the tune of 35 mm followed by North Lakhimpur at 23 mm, Goalpara 16 mm Kohima 14 mm, and Imphal 14 mm of rains.

In the same time frame, Rangia recorded 13 mm of rains, Guwahati 11 mm, Tezpur 8 mm and Majbat 3 mm of rains.

These rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which is prevailing over Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. A trough is also seen extending from this system up to Manipur across West Bengal. Moreover, moist winds from the Bay of Bengal are feeding moisture over Northeast India.

As per Skymet Weather, the weather systems are still persisting. In wake of this, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya and West Assam would continue to record light to moderate pre Monsoon showers with few heavy spells. Meanwhile, East Assam and Arunachal Pradesh would be confined to light to moderate showers only. These pre Monsoon rains are likely to continue during the next 24 to 48 hours.

Along with the hefty showers, strong gusty winds and lightning strikes would also continue to make appearances over the states. In view of the rains, the weather is also expected to remain pleasant with partly cloudy to cloudy sky conditions.
