Pre-Monsoon rains in Madurai, Salem, Ooty, Dharmapuri, Coimbatore, Nilgiris and Namakkal likely

Due to accumulation of moisture from Bay of Bengal, isolated places of Tamil Nadu received short spell of light to moderate rain and thundershower activities. In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Saturday, Tiruppattur recorded 24 mm of rain and Valparai 14 mm. Meanwhile, rest all parts remained dry and hot.

At present, an upper air trough is extending from Karnataka to Comorin region across interior parts of Tamil Nadu in the lower levels. Therefore, warm and moist winds will be affecting over the state.

Today isolated places of Tamil Nadu like Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Dindigul, Theni, Madurai, Sivagangai, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Virudhunagar, Tiruchirapalli and Kancheep may witness light to moderate rain and thundershower activities.

In fact, thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds (40-50 Kmph) and lightning are likely over Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Dindigul, Theni, Madurai, Sivagangai, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Virudhunagar, Tiruchirapalli, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Tiruvannamalai, Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli.

Rest all parts of Tamil Nadu will witness dry and humid weather conditions during the day followed by an uneasy night. These weather conditions will continue for the coming three to four days.

In the next 24 hours, sky condition in Chennai will be partly cloudy. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 37 and 29 deg Celsius respectively.
