Pre-Monsoon rains in Gwalior, Guna, Bhopal, Indore and Shivpuri around May 11

May 8, 2019 3:03 PM |

After Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh is the second least weather active state during the pre-Monsoon season, barring parts of Northwest Madhya Pradesh such as Gwalior, Bhind etc. which tend to receive weather activities due to the weather systems affecting North India.

During the months of March and April, eastern parts of Madhya Pradesh witnessed more rains compared to the western parts. After one widespread spell on April 16 and 17, wherein the state recorded few intense showers, the rainfall deficiency of Madhya Pradesh got covered up completely.

As of today, both the regions are largely rainfall surplus. West Madhya Pradesh is excess by 61% and East Madhya Pradesh by 24%. After that active spell, weather conditions in Madhya Pradesh remained almost dry with seasonal weather activity only.

Moreover, heat wave conditions had also gripped parts of Madhya Pradesh. Especially pockets of Southwest Madhya Pradesh, wherein Khargone city continuously recorded its maximum temperature above 45˚C for a week. In fact, on 28-05-2019, the city recorded the highest day temperatures of the season in India at 47.5˚C.

But now in the coming days, relief is in sight as an active Western Disturbance will affect the hills of North India and its induced cyclonic circulation will give widespread rain and thundershowers over the plains of North India.

Thus, due to the extended effect of these weather systems, parts of Madhya Pradesh will also witness spell of pre-Monsoon weather activities. On May 11, dust storm activity and thundershowers will start affecting the northern and western parts.

Thereafter, from May 13, intensity of these weather activities will increase and till May 16, most parts of Madhya Pradesh will experience widespread rain and thundershower accompanied with strong winds. The intensity will be more in West Madhya Pradesh as compared to East Madhya Pradesh.

With such widespread rains, temperatures over most parts of Madhya Pradesh will drop and heat wave conditions will abate from the region completely.
