Pre-Monsoon rains in Goa and Coastal Karnataka to persist

Southwest Monsoon made timely onset over Peninsular and Northeast India, giving good rainfall over the region. With the strengthening of the, it continues to give good rain and thundershowers over Kerala, Coastal Karnataka and Konkan and Goa, with few places recording heavy rains.

The month of May remained mostly dry and hot for both Goa and Coastal Karnataka. However, the rain gods bestowed their blessings over the regions and few intermittent rainy spells were witnessed during the last few days. This resulted in pleasant weather conditions.

These rains can be attributed to a trough that is likely to strengthen along the West Coast. Besides, a cyclonic circulation is expected to develop over North Arabian Sea. In wake of these systems, the rainfall activity will upsurge.

In a span of 24 hours, both the region saw moderate showers. Districts like Honnavar recorded 23.3 mm of rainfall, while Agumbe recorded 20.2 mm, Panaji 12 mm, Mangaluru 11.3 mm and Karwar 7.6 mm. In fact, as of now, Goa is witnessing good spell of showers.

According to Skymet Weather, Goa and Coastal Karnataka will receive moderate to heavy rainfall at many places. Moderate breeze is likely to prevail over the region. Cloudy to overcast sky, leading to pleasant weather conditions is anticipated for the next 48 hours.
