Pre Monsoon season has made an onset over the country, however, Punjab and Haryana have been witnessing dry weather for the past many days. Only handful of districts of both the states has managed to record light showers in March, so far.

With the absence of any significant rains, the day temperatures have been settling above normal by 2°C to 3°C across Punjab and Haryana.
As per weathermen, good news awaits the residents, as an active Western Disturbances is approaching the Western Himalayas. It has already induced a cyclonic circulation over the central parts of Pakistan and adjoining states of Punjab, Haryana and North Rajasthan.

Under the influence of these weather systems, we expect scattered rains to commence over Punjab and some parts of Haryana by tonight. The rain intensity would also increase gradually and is likely to cover some more parts by tomorrow. Due to these showers, the day temperatures are expected to witness a slight drop.
Places such asAmritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Gurdaspur,Hisar, Bhatinda, Ambala,Karnal, andChandigarhare expected to witness on and off rainfall activity until March 22. Thereafter, this weather system will move further east leading to dry weather over the northwestern plains.
As the weather clears up, northerly winds will again start blowing across the regions. This would lead to decrease in minimum temperatures by 2°C to 3°C, but maximum temperatures would start rising gradually over the states.
Weathermen do not foresee any active weather system approaching the northwestern plains anytime soon. Thus, clear sky would pave way for mercury to keep rising substantially. In fact, towards the end of the month, the heat is expected to increase so much so that maximums are anticipated to settle 3°C to 4°C above the normal level.
