Pre-Monsoon rains in Arunachal, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura to continue

The northeastern states of the country i.e. Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura recorded scattered light to moderate rains accompanied with strong winds during the last 24 hours. But during the day, mainly warm and humid weather with cloudy sky was observed.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Saturday, Silchar recorded 25 mm of rain, followed by Dibrugarh 22 mm, Goalpara 22 mm, Cherrapunji 15 mm, Kailashahar 13 mm, Pasighat 10 mm, Agartala 9 mm, Pet Jorhat 8 mm, North Lakhimpur 6 mm, Majat 5 mm, Guwahati 4 mm and Tezpur 3 mm.

All these pre-Monsoon weather activities occurred in association with an upper air cyclonic circulation over Bihar and another cyclonic circulation over Upper Assam. Along with this the trough extending from Bihar to Odisha is also enhancing the rains in Northeast India.

Moreover, due to presence of an anti-cyclonic circulation over West central Bay of Bengal, warm and moist winds are continuously blowing over to northeastern states. Simultaneously, successive Western Disturbances are also moving across higher latitudes.

Thus, during the coming days, we expect similar weather conditions to prevail over the region. Pre-Monsoon rain and thundershower activities with strong winds will occur in parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura. These rains will mostly occur during the late evening or early morning hours.
