Karnataka is a state comprising of varied terrain with Coastal Karnataka lying almost at the sea level, North Interior Karnataka situated quite high between 1000 to 2000 ft. above the sea level and South Interior Karnataka at even more elevations of about 3000 ft. It has a long coastline as well as elevated land mass. This makes it a state with varied rainfall pattern and temperature profile.
Places lying in the elevated plateau region like Bangalore and Mysore generally witness maximums around 33-34 degree Celsius. Rainfall amounts range between 40 to 50 mm on an average this month. Mysore receives about 74 mm of rainfall in April while Bangalore receives 40 mm. However, maximums could rise up to 37 degree Celsius during the fag end of April.
In North Interior Karnataka, places like Bijapur, Gadag and Gulbarga records maximums of around 39-40 degree Celsius. Nevertheless, temperatures could rise up to 42 degree Celsius in the last week of April. Gulbarga normally receives 18 mm and Bijapur 23 mm of rain. The coastal areas generally receive less rainfall in the pre-Monsoon season.
This year most parts of Karnataka have been mostly dry. Quite understandably, temperatures are also quite high in the state. South Interior Karnataka used to boast of places having pleasant weather conditions for instance Bangalore and Mysore. But, this year Bangalore has broken all heat records. On April 24, Bangalore recorded 39.2 degrees as its maximum which is 5 degrees above normal.
