The eastern states of the country have been witnessing on and off rains of varied intensity for the past many days. West Bengal has been recording the maximum amount of rainfall as compared to other eastern states such as Odisha, Jharkhand, East Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh.

As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is over Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand. An east-west trough is also extending from Uttar Pradesh to Nagaland across Jharkhand and West Bengal in the lower level. In fact, moisture incursion is also taking places from the Bay of Bengal.
In view of these combined weather systems, conditions are favourable for active Kalbaisakhi activity over many parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, and few districts of Jharkhand and adjoining East Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh.
Mainly rain and thundershower with strong gusty winds over are likely over these regions. Districts such as Malda, Bankura, Puruliya, Burdwan, Murshidabad, Nadia, Dumka, East Singhbhum, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Jharsuguda, Patna, Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, and Gaya are likely to witness pre-Monsoon activities.
Remaining places of the states are also expected to witness isolated pre-Monsoon activity. In fact, Kolkata and Ranchi are also likely to witness light to moderate rain with strong gusty winds. These activities would continue during the next two to three days.
