Pre Monsoon rain show in Northeast India to continue

The northeastern parts of the country are witnessing widespread pre Monsoon rain and thunderstorm activity as predicted by Skymet Weather. In the past 24 hours, Nagaland, Meghalaya, East Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura recorded good rainfall activity.

A cyclonic circulation is persisting over Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Bangladesh. An east-west trough is extending from Haryana to Arunachal Pradesh. In fact, moisture incursion is also taking places from the Bay of Bengal.

In wake of these combined weather systems, the northeastern states are recording extremely good pre Monsoon weather activities.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Pasighat recorded rain to the tune of 63 mm, Silchar 56 mm, Kohima 45 mm, Imphal 33 mm, Dibrugarh 27 mm, North Lakhimpur 25 mm and Lenpui 20 mm of rains. In the same time frame, Goalpara witness rain to the tune of 18 mm, Bhubri 12 mm, Golaghat 11 mm and Guwahati 2 mm of rains.

As per Skymet Weather, the conditions are still favorable for active pre Monsoon activities over most parts of Northeast India. Moderate rain is expected to occur at many places. Few heavy spells are also likely to occur at a few districts.

The intensity of showers will be more in Nagaland, Meghalaya, East Assam and Arunachal Pradesh as compared to Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Along with rain and thundershower, thunder squall activity with lightning strikes will also accompany at a few parts. These pre-Monsoon activities are expected to continue over Northeast India another three to four days.
