Pre-monsoon showers have rendered widespread, heavy rain in several parts of Tamil Nadu in last 24 hours. The copious rain in the state has brought a significant drop in day and night temperatures as well.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, a trough of low pressure moving from Maharashtra to South Tamil Nadu is receiving moisture from Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea and has caused fairly widespread rain in last 24 hours.
While Karaikal received 71.1 mm of rain in last 24 hours, there were several other places that received more than 50 mm of rain in the same span of time.
Due to rain, day temperatures have come down by 1-3°C and night temperatures are settling below normal by 3-5°C in the state.
According to Skymet Forecast, the rain is likely to continue for another 48 hours, after which the trough will become weak and shift towards Kerala.
