Pre-Monsoon Rain: Maharashtra to witness more showers

May 14, 2015 1:28 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Maharashtra has been witnessing light to moderate rain for the last few days over the parts of Vidarbha, Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra. With the pre-Monsoon activity gaining momentum, the rain will continue over these regions for the next couple of days as well.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, a cyclonic circulation has been prevailing over Central India. And a trough from this system is extending up to interior Tamil Nadu across Vidarbha and Marathwada, which is causing rain over parts of Maharashtra.

In last 24 hours, Pune recorded whopping 103 mm of rain, breaking the all-time high record for May. The highest rainfall in Pune so far was 82.5 mm on May 31, 1927.

In the wake of the persisting system, we expect rain intensity to increase over south Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada. While, scattered rainfall will continue over Vidarbha region for at least next three to four days.

Southern parts of coastal Maharashtra will also witness good showers.

The ongoing weather activity has also kept the rising day temperatures under check. During last week, mercury has not soared beyond mid 40s, which is not common for the region.

Skymet predicts that day temperatures will continue to settle below normal by two to three degrees at several places.

Let us have a look at the rainfall figures across Maharashtra in a span of last 24 hours till 8:30 am on Thursday.
