The southern states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala are the two main contributors in terms of rain during the pre-Monsoon season. But both these states are largely rain deficient till now. Tamil Nadu is deficient by 89% and Kerala by 71%.
However, we expect weather in southern parts of both these states to pick up pace as a trough/wind-discontinuity is extending from South Interior Karnataka to Comorin area across parts of Tamil Nadu adjacent to Kerala. Along with this an east-west trough is running across Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Due to this system, in the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Kodaikanal recorded 46 mm of rain, followed by Karipur 40 mm, Peermade 10 mm, Punalur 9.2 mm, Nedumangad 4.8 mm, Aryankavu 4 mm and Neyyattinkara 2 mm.
In the coming three to four days, we expect scattered Pre-Monsoon rain and thundershower activities accompanied with strong winds over parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Weather Alert: Spell of rain and thundershower activities will occur at some places over Coimbatore, Dindigul, Erode, Kanyakumari, Karur, Madurai, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Theni, The Nilgiris, Tirunelveli, Tiruppur and Virudhunagar in Tamil Nadu during the next 3 to 4 hours.
