Southwest Monsoon has made an early onset this year, i.e. four days before the scheduled date. The normal date for the arrival of Monsoon is considered to be June 1, however this year Monsoon struck South India around May 28.

Progressing steadily, Monsoon has reached the northeastern parts of the country and in anticipation to its pace, Monsoon is most likely to advance and cover the eastern parts of the country such as Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and parts of Odisha soon. Normally, Monsoon arrives these parts of the country by June 10 under the influence of the eastern arm of Monsoon current i.e., Bay of Bengal.

Before the influx of Monsoon air mass, pre-Monsoon weather activities like rain, thundershowers, thunderstorm, squally winds and lightning strikes procede to most parts and become a regular feature.
East India has been observing these weather activities for the third consecutive day and to spice up these pocket witnesses notorious violent thunderstorm due to the geographical terrain.
For instance, rain has been incessant over the city of Kolkata. Similar weather is seen and anticipated by Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and parts of Odisha.
Places such as Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Kolkata, Midnapore, Bankura, Purnea, Bhagalpur, Cuttack, Balasore, Koraput and Gopalpur will witness these pre-Monsoon activities during the next 24 hours. These rains are mainly due to the circulatory winds that are aided with moisture and heating element over and around the region.
