Odisha has been witnessing intermittent pre-Monsoon rain and thundershower activities for the past few days. At present, a Cyclonic Circulation has formed over Gangetic West Bengal and its adjoining areas, which is seen extending up to mid-tropospheric levels. Warm and moist winds from the Bay of Bengal are also prevailing over most parts of Odisha. While, a confluence zone is covering the areas of North Odisha and adjoining Chhattisgarh. Thus, thunderstorm activities would continue in most parts of Odisha for next 24-48 hours. These pre-Monsoon rains usually occur during afternoon or evening hours for a short duration.
According to weathermen, these rains which will be accompanied with squally winds and lightning will continue to prevail in some parts of Odisha for the next 24 hours.
During this period, the primary area to be affected would be the south coastal stations like Gopalpur, Ganjam, Bhubaneswar, Puri and interior parts like Koraput, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri and Phulbani.
In the past 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Keonjhargarh witnessed almost 12 mm of rain. While places like Angul, Bhubaneswar and Baripada witnessed traces of rain.
It is expected that the early morning hours will remain comfortable in the region, while afternoon would be very warm and humid. There will be development of thunderclouds or vertical clouds towards afternoon. Presently, active Kal Baisakhi conditions are prevailing in the region.
