In the absence of any active Western Disturbance, the weather is dry across Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand for the last few days. In fact, heatwave conditions were also observed over isolated parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.

However, good news is in the forecast for the residents of the hilly regions and the travelers. As per Skymet Weather, a fresh Western Disturbance has approached. Therefore, light to moderate rain and thundershower are likely to commence over the Western Himalayas.
These pre Monsoon rains are expected to continue until May 7. The intensity of showers is likely to be mainly light to moderate. However, isolated heavy showers cannot be ruled out. In fact, during the past day, Dharamsala and Tehri recorded light rains due to this weather system.
The rains will cover almost all the hills stations such as Srinagar, Gulmarg, Nainital, Manali, Shimla and Vaishno Devi. With these rains, the high mercury levels are now expected to drop leading to the abatement of heatwave conditions.
Thus, the temperatures may reach near normal or below normal in the coming days. Due to the rains, landslides and roadblocks are also possible in parts of hilly states. Usually, in the month of May, the possibility of snowfall is nil as the temperatures are high. However, this time the light snowfall activity over higher reaches cannot be ruled out.
