In fact, in few districts of Jammu and Kashmir, the intensity of rain was so high that the Jammu and Kashmir national highway had to be shut down on Wednesday due to the extensive landslide in Ramban district.

These rains have been occurring due to the successive Western Disturbances which have been approaching the Western Himalayas. In the last 24 hours also moderate spells of rain and thundershower were witnessed over some parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Gulmarg recorded rain to the tune of 28 mm in the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday. In the same time frame, Banihal and Qazigund observed light rainfall activity.

As per Skymet Weather, the intensity of pre Monsoon rains is likely to increase over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the next 24 hours. By April 21, the intensity may once again decrease as the Western Disturbance will move away eastwards. However, isolated pockets would get some rainfall activity due to the remnants of the Western Disturbance.

Thus, the chances of landslides and mudslides are very high during the next 24 to 48 hours. Risky. In fact, Vaishno Devi shrine is also expected to witness good rain and thunderstorm activity during the next 24 to 36 hours. Therefore, travel plans to the hills stations such as Srinagar, Gulmarg, Manali, and Shimla should be put to halt this week.

The temperatures will continue to settle below normal over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Meanwhile, temperatures in Uttarakhand would settle near normal. The weather up in the hills would be pleasant.
