Usually, at this time of the year, the mercury level shoots up over Delhi and its adjoining regions of Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad and Gurugram. However, this year, the weather conditions have taken a U-turn and on and off pre-Monsoon showers of brief span kept the weather pleasant over the City of Rallies.
Particularly, during the last 48 hours, early morning showers had kept the check on mercury. Though rains escaped Delhi-NCR on Saturday afternoon but persistent cloud cover had kept the weather pleasant.
In fact, maximum temperatures on June 17 at Delhi settled at 31.8°C, which was seven degrees below the normal average. Meanwhile, high humidity levels did not led the night temperature drop too much and settled at 26.6°C , just a degree below the normal.

These conditions can be attributed to the frequent approach of Western disturbances over Western Himalayas and its induced cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining Punjab. Also, a trough has also been extending from the system till northeastern region across the northwestern plains including Delhi-NCR.
Now, all the systems have cleared away the region and the trough has now shifted northwards along the foothills of Himalayas. With this, rains will take a brief break over Delhi-NCR and mercury will rise marginally but will continue to settle in mid 30s. For next 2 days, Delhiites will have battle warm and humid weather.
However, weathermen at Skymet Weather are predicting another spell of rain and thundershowers to affect parts of the national capital by June 20 and 21.

These showers could be credited to a fresh Western Disturbance that is likely to approach North India. With this the intensity of rains will vary from light to moderate and the weather will be pleasant. Few areas may get to see dust storm also.
These on and off rains are likely to continue till the onset of Monsoon over Delhi. Till date, Delhi has recorded 40.8 mm of rain as compared to monthly average of 82.2 mm of rain. But with more rain in offing, Delhi is anticipated to surpass its monthly mean.
