Pre-Monsoon rain in Chennai to make an appearance on Wednesday

Chennai has been battling a prolonged dry spell, leaving people to battle hot and humid weather conditions. As predicted by Skymet Weather, weather models are now indicating some rain and thundershowers approaching the state capital.

A north-south trough has been running from Telangana till South Tamil Nadu for last few days. Now, the trough is extending towards east. In wake of this, humid southwesterly winds from Bay of Bengal will soon blowing over the Chennai, making situation conducive for some pre-Monsoon rains Wednesday onwards.

Weather will remain clear on Tuesday, with partly cloudy to cloudy sky conditions. Though any weather activity in not a chance today but isolated spell of thunder storm cannot be ruled out during the latter part of the day.

Thereafter on Wednesday, we can expect scattered rain and thundershowers along with thunderstorm over Chennai. Chances are quite high that these rainy conditions may continue Thursday as well. But as reiterated earlier, these pre-Monsoon activities will occur during the late afternoon or evening hours.

With dry-spell coming likely to end, maximum temperatures may also drop marginally ushering in much-need relief.

Being a rain shadow, Chennai does not record much rains during the pre-Monsoon season. However, this year, the city has remained absolutely dry. So far in May, city has not even recorded traces of rainfall as compared to its monthly average rainfall of 43.9 mm.
