The cyclonic circulation persists over North Bihar and adjoining areas. The trough coming from the cyclonic circulation over Punjab and adjoining areas is also passing through the weather system over here.

As had been predicted earlier, pre-Monsoon activities in terms of rain and thundershowers lashed East India on Tuesday. Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha started observing dust storm activities from late afternoon onwards. In the evening hours, Patna and several other districts of northeast Bihar were lashed by heavy rain and thundershowers accompanied by hail storm. Such weather activities in the pre-Monsoon season are termed as Kal Baisakhi or Nor’westers.

Several places in the states had been reeling under hot weather conditions for the last few days. This spell of rain brought down temperatures temporarily.

While Jamshedpur and Ranchi in Jharkhand have received record-breaking rain in a span of 24 hours, areas in West Bengal and Bihar have also received moderate rain owing to the weather system.

Here's a look at the rainfall figures during last 24 hours:

Amidst the forecast of an early and above normal Monsoon this year, parts of East India are likely to witness moderate pre-Monsoon showers for another couple of days. Rain and thundershowers will persist over Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal for another 24 to 48 hours.
