Updated on June 1, 3:10 PM (IST): Heavy pre-Monsoon rain continues over Northeast India

Pre-Monsoon activity is in full swing over Northeast India. The region has been witnessing fairly widespread moderate to heavy rainfall over most parts and very heavy at isolated parts.

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Cherrapunji in Meghalaya received record-rainfall of 541.7 mm that is the second highest rainfall in 24 hours during the last 10 years.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, persisting cyclonic circulation over Assam and Meghalaya combined with the moist winds from Bay of Bengal is causing weather over Northeastern states.

The rainfall with varying intensity will continue to lash the region for next three to four days as well, predicts Skymet.

In wake of rain activity, weather has become fairly pleasant. Maximum temperatures are settling in mid 20s, while minimum temperatures are in low 20s.

As per Skymet, these could be the last spell of pre-Monsoon showers, as Southwest Monsoon is just around the corner. This year we are expecting onset of Monsoon around June 4 or 5 that strikes Northeast and South India simultaneously.
