Pre-Monsoon rain continues to lash most parts of southern peninsula, with intensity varying from moderate to heavy. As a result, people across Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and coastal Andhra Pradesh are enjoying pleasant weather conditions.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, several weather systems are working in tandem to give fairly widespread rain over the region.
On one hand, a cyclonic circulation over Lakshadweep and adjoining Kerala region is giving moderate to heavy rain over Karnataka, Kerala and parts of Tamil Nadu. While on the other hand, a trough from Chhattisgarh to interior Karnataka across Telangana is responsible for rain over Telangana and parts of Andhra Pradesh.
As per the latest forecast by Skymet, Kerala and Karnataka will continue to witness moderate to heavy rain during next 48 hours. While, the intensity of rain over Tamil Nadu will reduce as the cyclonic circulation will shift northeastwards. Meanwhile, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will continue to witness moderate amounts of rain.
Let us have a look at the rainfall figures across southern peninsular region in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday.
As per Skymet, present weather conditions are indicative of early onset of Southwest Monsoon over Kerala. It has already arrived over Andaman and Nicobar Islands well before time and is likely to reach Sri Lanka shortly, thereafter hitting Kerala.
The official date or onset of Monsoon in Kerala is June 1 but this year Skymet predicts it to arrive three to four days prior than its expected time.
