Pre-monsoon remains generous over West Bengal including Kolkata. As on May 5th Gangetic West Bengal is surplus why 72% and Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim by 15%. Bihar is large rain surplus by 270%.

During the last 24 hours, heavy thundershowers associated with lightning strikes and strong winds battered many parts of West Bengal and Bihar. Bhagalpur, Purnia, Malda, Kolkata, and many more districts witnessed violent thunderstorms and showers.

The first six days of May have witnessed 73 mm of rain over Kolkata. The monthly average of May for the city is 133.1 mm. Now we expect that rain activities will subside over Bihar and West Bengal. However, on and off light rain with one or two moderate spells of rain may continue over Eastern districts of Bihar as well as isolated pockets of Gangetic West Bengal for another 24 hours.

Another spell of rains is expected around May 10 which will continue for at least the next 3 to 4 days. Day temperatures may increase by 3 to 4 degrees during the next 2 to 3 days leading to hot and uneasy weather conditions. There are the bright chances for Kolkata to surpass its monthly rain average.
