Pre-monsoon heavy showers lashes Madhya Maharashtra

Parts of Madhya Maharashtra have witnessed pre-monsoon rains, coupled with hailstorms at some places on Thursday. In a span of last 24 hours in Ratnagiri district of the region, Palgad recorded 34.79 mm of rain followed by Aanjrali at 31.25 mm and Rampur at 28.94 mm.

Similarly in Sangli district, Kokrud received 37.83 mm of rain, Sirsi 37.58 mm, Yelavi 34.53 mm, Visapur 32.79 mm, and Mangale 27.94 mm. In Satara district, Bamnoli recorded 42.15 mm, Karhar 36.32 mm and Kudal 28.96 mm.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the rainy spell is expected to continue for next two to three days, extending further and covering parts of Marathwada region and adjoining parts of North Karnataka and Telangana.

In wake of the recent weather activity, maximum temperature will drop, bringing much needed relief to the people from the scorching heat.

However on the other side, the heavy spell has destroyed standing crops, leaving farmers in despair. The freak weather event, which began towards the end of February and continued till March, has already swept across northern parts and western parts of India, taking lives of hundreds of farmers in last 30 days itself.
