Between March 1 and April 17, pre-monsoon activities occurred over most parts of the country, and the country is a rain surplus by 13%. Central India and North West India are the highest beneficiary of these pre-monsoon activities.
Central India has received 140% excess rain and North West India is excess by 40%, South Peninsula is deficient by just 3% whereas East and Northeast India have not received enough rain during this pre monsoon season, and it is rain deficient by 38%. Rain deficiency of east and north east India is due to North Eastern states which are deficient or large rain deficient.
During last 24 hours, almost all the states of the country have received rain and thundershower activities, barring Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. There are multiple weather systems which are responsible for these pre monsoon activities.
Western disturbance is over North Pakistan, cyclonic circulation over Punjab and adjoining area, a trough is extending from Punjab to Bihar across Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, cyclonic circulation in South Assam, a north south trough is extending from north East Madhya Pradesh to south interior Karnataka across Vidarbha and Marathwada. Moisture feed is from Arabian Sea as well as from Bay of Bengal over Central India and South Peninsula.
Moderate to heavy rain activities occurred over North East India. Gangetic West Bengal, parts of Orissa, South Madhya Maharashtra and North interior Karnataka also received light to moderate rains. Western Himalayas received fairly widespread rain thundershower with isolated snowfall. Rain thundershower with dust storm and isolated hail occurred over northern plains and east India. Isolated thunderstorm activities with isolated hailstorm occurred over Central parts of the country.
We expect pre monsoon activities to continue over most parts of the country except Gujarat, South Rajasthan, Konkan & Goa and West Madhya Pradesh for another 48 hours. Parts of Gujarat and West Madhya Pradesh may also receive patchy rains on April 25 and 26.
Therefore the entire country is going to get Pre-Monsoon rains next week.
