The three month long Pre Monsoon season has officially come to an end now. The Pre Monsoon season begins in March and lasts until the end of May. Pre Monsoon is observed for a full three months for South India. Meanwhile, North India has a mild March as wintry conditions do not make an exit yet.
The Pre Monsoon 2019 ended with a 25 percent deficit wherein all the divisions were deficient with Central India deficient by 18 percent, South India by 47 percent, Northwest India by 30 percent, and East and Northeast India by 14 percent.
All the sub divisions in Peninsular India are deficit or large deficit. Talking about Central India, no region is excess but all sub divisions are either within normal or are large deficit. In the state of Maharashtra, all pockets of Vidarbha, Marathwada, Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan are large deficit.
The only state with large excess is Rajasthan with 62 percent surplus rains. The second region which is surplus is Jharkhand. On the other hand, Goa, and Daman Diu are 100 percent deficient with no rains observed in the Pre Monsoon season.
Regions which are large deficit by more than 80 percent include Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Daman and Diu, and Lakshadweep. Talking about the entire country, 57 percent of the area is either deficit or large deficit. Rest of the 43 percent regions are either normal or excess.
