The reason for these rains as per Skymet Weather can be attributed to the multiple weather systems over the region. An axis of Monsoon trough is passing from Jaisalmer, the center of Low’s, East Rajasthan, Sidhi, Bankura, Canning and is moving towards east southeastwards to the northeast Bay of Bengal. A cyclonic circulation is over Bangladesh, West Bengal and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal.
The cyclonic circulation is likely to intensify into a low pressure area during the next 2 to 3 days. Thus, moderate to heavy rains are likely over Kolkata and adjoining areas for the next 24 to 48 hours. At present, pleasant weather conditions are prevailing over the city of joy and the temperatures are settling below normal levels.
